ABOUT BACKGROUND Born on the Citadel space station in 2163, Chloe - and her twin brother, Scott - grew up surrounded by different alien species, cultures and histories, sparking a fascination with science. She joined the Systems Alliance military, initially as a peacekeeper before being approached to serve in a support role for Prothean researchers. When her father, Alec, was dishonorably discharged due to his AI research, Chloe's career was also effectively ended, though this gave her the opportunity to join the Andromeda Initiative, suddenly presented with the kind of scientific frontiers she had been looking for. Founded in 2176 and launched in 2185, the Andromeda Initiative was a civilian, multi-species project created to send explorers, scientists and colonists on a one-way trip to the Andromeda Galaxy. Six Ark ships were constructed and equipped with cryostasis chambers for their members to sleep in during the 600-year-long journey. Each Ark was assigned a Pathfinder, a mix of elite solder, scientist, and guide tasked with finding a new home. The Ark Hyperion's Pathfinder was Alec Ryder. Initially presented as an attempt to establish a permanent presence on the (supposedly) resource-rich frontier of Andromeda, and eventually create a route between it and the Milky Way Galaxy, the Andromeda Intitiative's true purpose was kept hidden - saving the Milky Way's civilizations. In 2183, after a failed geth attack on the Citadel and the discovery of the Reapers, the Andromeda Intitiative's unkown benefactor, along with Alec Ryder, agreed to hasten the Ark's departure to Andromeda, desiring to safeguard a portion of Milky Way civilizations from the Reapers by sending 100,000 colonists to Andromeda using the Intitiative as cover. In 2185 the Andromeda Initiative began its journey. The first wave, made up of the Nexus, Ark Hyperion, Ark Leusinia, Ark Natanus, and Ark Paarchero were launched into dark space. In 2818, 633 years after starting their journey, the Nexus arrived in the Heleus Cluster of the Andromeda galaxy. A year later Ark Leusinia, Ark Natanus, and Ark Paarchero arrived in the Heleus Cluster separately and were either attacked by the kett or damaged by the Scourge, preventing them from rendezvousing with the Nexus. Shortly after the Ark Hyperion also arrived in the Andromeda galaxy, 14 months after the Nexus.
